I’m going to keep my list short and give you the inside scoop on the best blogging tools every blogger needs. Of course, this list isn’t exhaustive, but I’ve found that the tools I’m going to mention are some of the best blogging tools out there. Ones I personally use myself and couldn’t recommend enough.

So, let’s get this started. Here are the best blogging tools every blogger needs.

Blogging Tools Every Blogger Needs

Self Hosted WordPress

This is crucial when it comes to blogging. When I first started my blog in April 2017, I set it up using Blogger. Self-hosting my blog scared the hell out of me and I honestly had no idea what was I doing. I finally made the switch from Blogger to self-hosted WordPress in October 2018 and I haven’t looked back.

Self-hosting your blog will give it a cleaner and more professional look. Another reason to self-host is because if you’re using Blogger, Wix, or even WordPress.com, you don’t own your blog and it can be shut down by the host at any time. For any reason.

A Good Website Host

When you’re self-hosting your blog, you need a good host. I personally use Siteground and have been for the last 2 years. In my opinion, they are the best. Siteground offers great features, good customer service, and an affordable price, which was really important to me when choosing a website host.

Yoast SEO

Yoast SEO is a plugin for WordPress blogs. It’s great for beginners who have limited to no knowledge of search engine optimization. When I first started my blog I knew absolutely nothing about search engine optimization. I am still not an expert (I don’t call myself an expert in anything because I am always learning), but Yoast SEO did help me learn some basic SEO knowledge. The key to SEO (at least in my opinion) is to write for your audience first. And then go back and edit for SEO. If you’re not writing for your audience, then no matter how good your SEO strategy is, it’s not going to resonate with anyone.

There is a free version and a paid version, but the free version is fine for most bloggers. It’s what I use and I’ve never once wanted to upgrade to the paid version.

Email Marketing Tools

As a blogger, it’s so important you have an email list. Some of the best email marketing tools are MailerLite, MailChimp, and ConvertKit.

In order to get readers to provide you with their email address and subscribe, try offering a free e-Book, checklist, or blog post that’s only available for those who sign up. This will draw people in and they’ll  want to subscribe to your emails.

Lightroom

I use Lightroom to edit all of my photos. There is definitely a learning curve, I personally think there is a learning curve with a lot of Adobe products, but once you figure it out it’s truly the best photo editing software out there.

Canva or Adobe Spark

To make graphics for your website or Pinterest account, you’ll need a good graphic design platform. I really like both Canva and Adobe Spark, but I tend to gravitate more toward Adobe Spark. I think their graphics are better and the templates (especially for Pinterest) are more aesthetically pleasing.

Tailwind

Tailwind is a Pinterest and Instagram marketing tool for bloggers and small businesses designed to allow those using the platform to schedule posts. Tailwind also allows you to track your pins so you can easily determine which ones are performing the best. I wrote a very detailed blog post about the pros of Tailwind that you should definitely check out if you’re interested in learning more about the platform.
