Creating Habits for a Healthier Mind
Creating habits for a healthier mind is the first step in creating a healthier, and happier, life. If I’ve learned anything during the last few months of spending time at home (thank you, quarantine), it’s that mental health is so important! I’ve been able to focus on things I forgot I enjoyed doing because I’ve had the time. I wanted to share some of the things I’ve been doing that have helped clear my mind. So, without further ado, here are five habits for a healthier mind.
FIVE HABITS FOR A HEALTHIER MIND
Stop Hitting the Snooze Button
Waking up when your alarm goes off instead of hitting the snooze button is so important to having a healthier mind. Not only will you have more energy, you’ll be prepared to tackle the day. There are several studies that talk about how hitting the snooze button can actually make you feel more groggy than when you don’t hit snooze.
Journal First Thing in the Morning
Journaling first thing in the morning will help wake up your brain. Spend 10 minutes in the morning to journal before you start your day. Write down your expectations for the day, what you dreamed about the night before, or you could even write about what your goals are for the year.
Limit Social Media Scrolling
Let’s face it, social media consumes a lot of our time. And whether you want to admit it or not, it’s true. One of the best things you can do for a healthier mind is to limit social media scrolling. Take 30 minutes a day and get off social media. Instead, spend that time learning a new recipe, reading a new book, or catching up with a friend over coffee.
Get Active
Working out releases endorphins, which make us feel happier. Take a walk around your neighborhood, play tennis with your kids (if you have kids), or sign up for a yoga class at your local studio. You could even watch workout videos on YouTube and turn your living room into a makeshift gym.
Challenge Your Brain
There are tons of activities you can do to stimulate and challenge your brain. Try a new skill like playing the guitar, learning a foreign language, or taking an online class. You can also put together jigsaw puzzles or work on crosswords. The idea is to get your brain out of its comfort zone.
