Everything you Need to Know About Hiking the Tet Paul Nature Trail in St. Lucia

Hiking the Tet Paul Nature Trail

There are so many beautiful hiking trails in St. Lucia, but hiking the Tet Paul Nature Trail will arguably give you some of the best views. From the viewing platform at the top, expect unparalleled views of the pitons and the surrounding area, including neighboring islands Martinique and St. Vincent. What’s unique about the Tet Paul Nature Trail is that it’s guided and your guide will be very informed on the different plants, trees, flowers, fruits, and vegetables that grow along the hike.

HOW TO GET THERE

Tet Paul Nature Trail is located off Laborie Vieux-Fort Highway and is only a 10-minute drive from Soufriere. There are plenty of signs along the side of the road pointing you in the right direction once you turn off Laborie Vieux-Fort Highway. Also, Google Maps works really in St. Lucia, so if you have data on your phone, just type in “Tet Paul Nature Trail” and it will guide you right there.

COST

It costs $10.00 (USD) per person for the hike. You can pay in U.S. currency if you have it with it. In fact, I noticed that a lot of places in St. Lucia will accept U.S. currency, but you will receive any change in Eastern Caribbean Dollars.

BEST TIME TO HIKE

The mornings will be a little more forgiving with the heat, but the afternoon will have less people. So it’s really dependent upon what type of experience you want. We hiked the trail in the afternoon, around 2:00pm, and we only passed a few other people during our hike, which was a pleasant surprise. It honestly wasn’t even that hot, even at 2:00pm, and a lot of the trail was shaded because of the trees.

Another thing to keep in mind is the number of cruise ships in port at Castries, which can be a factor in how crowded it could be. I would recommend checking out the CruiseMapper site (linked here) to find how may cruise ships are in port on any particular day.

IS THE TRAIL DIFFICULT

Not at all. I am not a hiker and I found it to be a relatively easy 30 minute hike to the viewing platform at the top. There are a few stairs, but nothing too unbearable and they aren’t very steep, which is nice.

GUIDE

As I briefly mentioned above, the Tet Paul Nature Trail hike is guided. I had never done a guided hike before and I thoroughly enjoyed it! We ended up being paired with a gentleman named Denver who was so knowledgeable of the area. He told us about the working farm along the trail that grows pineapples, pumpkins, nuts, and even herbs. I walked away from the hike learning several things I didn’t know before!
